Participants will engage in a case study and role play the steps in the collaborative process as they work through an international dispute.  Client screening techniques will be explored followed by an overview of several approaches to interest-based negotiation. On their journey, participants will encounter ethical puzzlers and learn that collaborative skills can be transferred to resolve matters in adversarial processes. A panel of mediation experts will share ideas on breaking impasse.  Participants who have never had collaborative training should study the Participation Agreement and Protocols on this web site before the training.

Mr. Munson, a fourth generation Texan, has represented Texas for many years on the Uniform Law Commission. He served as Chair of the Drafting Committee that drafted the Uniform Collaborative Law Act, and presently serves as Chair of the Enactment Committee.

The Symposium includes presentations for the users of legal services and collaborative practitioners. Participants will hear a report on the status of the Uniform Collaborative Law Act and the progress of Civil Collaborative Law around the world. Presentations include how to work with collaborative lawyers that you know as well as ones you do not know; a look at a new twist on reducing the possibilities of a collaborative case ending up in litigation; how to run a collaborative practice including a discussion of billing practices in collaborative matters; and take away ideas on how to build a collaborative community. Kathleen Bryan, President and CEO of the CPR Institute will be joined by in-house counsel in sharing their views on Collaborative Law in corporate America
